Or will you just be remembered as the stiff on the bench?

One of our life goals is to teach our kids anything is possible. It is one of the reasons why we decided to take this trip.

Anything is Possible

Rachel and I consciously work to teach and inspire Brooklyn and Briggs to believe: anything is possible.

A N Y T H I N G.

Instead of asking, “Why me?”, we tell them to think, “Why NOT me?”

It’s a little mindset change with a big impact.

One way we infuse this lesson is by celebrating history: forts, cemeteries, monuments, statues. These is so much to learn and know from history. And, when we are there, we talk about what we got right – and where we missed the mark in our history. We talk about the why the person or place is being celebrated or memorialized.

Celebrating Veterans at Fort Negley in Nashville

After all, we don’t have to repeat the same mistakes. My brother gave me my greatest piece of advice the morning he left for Navy Bootcamp:

“Learn from my mistakes. I made them for you.”

When we understand what happened before us, we can dream bigger and go forward faster.

Yes, knowledge is very important to chasing dreams

Dream Epically

When you believe anything is possible, then you also come to the realization that you accomplish nothing in life alone. Stephen Covey was right, Interdependence is the highest state of living. And, this is why you have to surround yourself with epic people who dream so big that they might just make statues of them and place in public places too.

Values alignment creates a network of support that lifts everything. If your Village is full of critics instead of cheerleaders, then everything will seem insurmountable. But, if you have people who love and support and model, A N Y T H I N G is possible.

Intentionally invite people into your life who lift your Village:

  • Celebrate creativity.
  • Celebrate doing the work.
  • Celebrate ideas.
  • Celebrate taking smart risks.

And, get off the bench of life and to live life epically.

Yes, Anything is Possible

We can’t wait to see what Brooklyn and Briggs are dreaming.

They know anything is possible. And, it’s because of people like you.

And, on the week of Thanksgiving, we are grateful for you, our Village.

Happy Thanksgiving!

To say it is “interesting” to share literally every moment of every day with your kids is an understatement along the magnitude that COVID is a small health concern. The number of questions kids ask is insane. And, some of those questions make you go, “Hmmm.”

The vigor inspired by intellectual curiosity and the opportunity to glimpse at the world through the unjaded lens of a four and eight year old is priceless. I’d like to consider myself patient; it has grown my patience.

Among a few of our inspired questions that have led to intriguing conversations:

  • Why are there homeless people? Why don’t we just let them sleep in big buildings when no one is there? (while in St Louis where there were many homeless people)
  • Why does this manhole cover smell like poop and pee? (because Briggs heard water running underground and wanted to check it out – surprise!)
  • Why does time have to change? (while in different time zones and figuring out meeting times and explaining how the earth moves)
  • If I weigh 43 pounds on Earth and 108 pounds on Jupiter, does that mean I got fat? (while exploring gravity at the Adventure Science Center)
  • Why are there all these flags on the ground? (while visiting a Fort to discuss Veterans Day)
  • Why don’t all parks have playgrounds? (when we made it to the top of Love Park in Nashville…a great view of the city, but no playground)
  • Why is this house (the Biltmore) ginormous and some people sleep on the streets?
  • What is stronger: water or rocks? (while visiting a waterfall)
  • Why does the same food taste good in one place and bad in another? (leading to quality of ingredients and craftsmanship of work)

I look forward to hearing more inspired, interesting questions from our kids. Their little eyes and big minds inspire. Indeed, there is a lot we can learn from our kids.

Come join the fun and follow the Mac Family Fun journey.
