The world was going crazy with COVID. The real estate market continued to skyrocket. We both had worked remotely from home for years, so that was nothing new. COVID just re-aligned how we work and the ways we can work together. So, one day, Rachel floated an idea, “What about selling our house and traveling for the next year?”
Seventy-five days later, after three tanks of gas worth of donations to Goodwill, selling most of our furniture and consolidating our nearly 3,000 sqft home into every square inch of an 187 sqft storage facility, our family was “homeless.” Rachel has a way of inspiring people. ๐
Our Goals
We leave with three goals:
- Adventurously explore the world to create wider and deeper perspectives. This will allow us to live in wonder instead of judgment.
- Create opportunities to engage in real-world education. We don’t want to just read about it. We want to walk across it, touch it and see it.
- Provide unconditional love to each other to steel unbreakable relationships between us. These relationships will serve to comfort, support and allow us to confidently take epic risks.
And, so, what started as Rachel’s dream, our family fully embraced. We are committed to the what and open to the how. We’ve sold our house sold, packed a car and setoff with open arms to embrace the adventure of a lifetime. We invite you to follow the adventure (or even join us). After all, together is always better.
PS – Rachel and I have worked from home for many years now – and will continue to do so. The process doesn’t change – only the venue of “home.” If COVID has taught us anything, you can truly work effectively from anywhere.
Our Family
Jerry
Husband, Dad and Sherpa
Jerry’s #1 life goal is to “have more fun than anyone else,” so this trip fits right in. He hails from just outside the City of Brotherly Love where he became a recovering Philly sports fan many years ago. If he isn’t up early to watch a sunrise, you can almost be sure he is reading or writing (or thinking).
Rachel
Wife, Mom and Dreamer
Rachel is wildly loved for her unbridled optimism – also known as Barnes Optimism (BO). She tries (and pulls off) remarkable feats of skill while remaining everyone’s biggest cheerleader.
Brooklyn
Baby Whisperer, Kindest Soul and Gymnastics Tumbler
Brooklyn’s birth certificate may read eight, but her Cheerful Soul says she’s much older and wiser. When she’s not caring for the young or the old, Brooklyn loves being around her friends and tumbling in gymnastics.
Briggs
Explorer, Digger and World-Class Lizard Hunter
Briggs, our precocious four year old, loves the outdoors. He is as comfortable running with the pack as he is being a Magellan and striking out for adventure on his own. No matter, his real love (other than his father) is digging and hunting lizards (pronounced “yizards”). He set a one-day hunting record at 12, but always practices catch and release with his little friends.
