To say it is “interesting” to share literally every moment of every day with your kids is an understatement along the magnitude that COVID is a small health concern. The number of questions kids ask is insane. And, some of those questions make you go, “Hmmm.”

The vigor inspired by intellectual curiosity and the opportunity to glimpse at the world through the unjaded lens of a four and eight year old is priceless. I’d like to consider myself patient; it has grown my patience.
Among a few of our inspired questions that have led to intriguing conversations:
- Why are there homeless people? Why don’t we just let them sleep in big buildings when no one is there? (while in St Louis where there were many homeless people)
- Why does this manhole cover smell like poop and pee? (because Briggs heard water running underground and wanted to check it out – surprise!)
- Why does time have to change? (while in different time zones and figuring out meeting times and explaining how the earth moves)
- If I weigh 43 pounds on Earth and 108 pounds on Jupiter, does that mean I got fat? (while exploring gravity at the Adventure Science Center)
- Why are there all these flags on the ground? (while visiting a Fort to discuss Veterans Day)
- Why don’t all parks have playgrounds? (when we made it to the top of Love Park in Nashville…a great view of the city, but no playground)
- Why is this house (the Biltmore) ginormous and some people sleep on the streets?
- What is stronger: water or rocks? (while visiting a waterfall)
- Why does the same food taste good in one place and bad in another? (leading to quality of ingredients and craftsmanship of work)
I look forward to hearing more inspired, interesting questions from our kids. Their little eyes and big minds inspire. Indeed, there is a lot we can learn from our kids.

Love the water vs rocks question!
It came up again today as we walked along Eagle River. He’s now on the water side…persistence, persistence, persistence.
